Peter Gerbino is a Sports Medicine orthopedic surgeon who cares for general orthopedic problems in patients of all ages. He has deep expertise in caring for sports injuries in children, dancers and skaters.

Dr Gerbino received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Stanford University and his MD from the University of Pittsburgh. His initial orthopedic training occurred in the United States Navy in Portsmouth, Virginia. While in the Navy, Dr Gerbino rose to the rank of Captain spending 32 years on active duty and in the Reserves caring for military personnel around the world.

Dr Gerbino’s Sports Medicine Fellowship was at Boston Children’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. He is Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery and subspecialty Board Certified in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He has held faculty positions at the University of Cincinnati and Harvard Medical School.

He cares for athletes at all levels including professional athletes and dancers. He has worked with United States Olympic athletes for the last two decades, spending time at the Olympics Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado working with the latest in physical therapy, training techniques, mental and physical tools and bringing that knowledge to his practice. He was selected to be the Team Physician for the United States Olympic Figure Skating Team at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Korea in 2018. Active in the community, he takes care of the Monterey Roller Derby teams, the Seaside High School football team, Team Physician Monterey Bay Football Club Union, and frequently consults with the Defense Language Institute of Monterey military doctors. While on staff at Harvard, he worked with the Boston Ballet and was Team Physician for Babson College.

He has published more than 49 scientific papers and textbook chapters and has lectured around the world on topics within Sports Medicine. He brings that level of knowledge and skill to every person who needs his care

Dr Gerbino performs surgery at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Monterey Peninsula Surgery Center and Hazel Hawkins Hospital, but the majority of his patients are successfully treated without surgery. He has held several leadership positions at Community Hospital, including Chief of Orthopedics and Chief of Surgery.
